摘要:
The development of advanced functional materials for efficient CO2 capture, storage and conversion is crucial to mitigate climate change. Porous material like Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs), when combined with ionic liquids (ILs), promote selective CO2 adsorption.1-6 Employing DFT and GCMC simulations, we explored ILs impregnated MOFs and ZIFs to understand the structure property relationships influencing CO2 affinity as well as selectivity under confinement. It is interesting to note that hydrophobic IL exhibits stronger CO2 adsorption under confinement.5 This is due to the similar hydrophobicities (i.e. like-like pair) of ZIF-8 framework and the selected ILs. In addition, binary mixtures of hydrophobic IL@ZIF-8 promoted CO2 selectivity up to 3.5-fold.3 UiO-66-based composites having aromatic cations ([BPy]⁺[BF4]⁻) showed enhances 65% in CO2/N2 selectivity via π–π and van der Waals (vdWs) interactions, while aliphatic cations ([N2224]⁺) suffered from steric hindrance. Metal-based anions ([AlCl4]⁻, [FeCl4]⁻) further improved adsorption enthalpy and CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 selectivity.6 Our studies provide molecular-level insights into IL framework synergy, driving the rational design of next-generation IL@MOF materials for CO2 capture, storage, separation and catalytic conversion into other value-added products.
