A. Surface Science:

• In this aspect, we focus on the phase inversion characteristics of the heterogeneous system. Phase inversion represents the interchange between the continuous phase and the dispersed phase. Application of this research can be found in cosmetics, detergency, purification and organic synthesis etc.

B. Recent research works include：

• The mechanism and factors responsible for the phase inversion characteristics.
• Phase inversion characteristics of the phase transfer catalytic reaction system.
• Competition Analysis in the chemical engineering industries in Taiwan.
• Application of HAZOP and RBI system to the process safety analysis in the semi-conductor industries.
• Application of Expert System to improve the fault diagnosis of equipment in the semi-conductor industries.
• Application of EVA to assess the performance of the plastic industries in Taiwan.

C. Process Optimization:

• We are currently studying the optimal designs of the hydrodemetallation and hydrodesulfurication of the residual oil process. By maximizing the total amount of demetallaiton or desulfurization, the optimal policies of catalyst pore size, activity distribution and arrangement of catalysts are obtained.
