Introduction to hybrid reactive-extractive distillation
The hybrid reactive-extractive distillation (RED) has gained popularity in recent years for its ability to integrate reaction and extractive distillation within a single unit operation. Unlike conventional reactive or extractive distillation processes, RED harnesses the heat generated during the reaction to drive the subsequent separation, thereby reducing energy consumption. This approach is particularly attractive for ternary azeotropic separations, as reflected by the increasing number of publications on the topic since 2020. This lecture will introduce the concept of hybrid RED and provide an overview of key developments and research progress in this area to date.
Research sharing: Cold e-mail & Dare to e-mail the Editor
In this session, I will share my research journey from pursuing a PhD part-time while working as a full-time engineer, to eventually transitioning into a full-time research role. A key focus will be on how cold emails can be effectively used to initiate collaborations and expand professional networks. I will also offer personal insights on how to approach and build constructive relationships with journal editors through email communication.

Biography
Dr Kong is a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at Sunway University. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Swinburne University of Technology in 2021 through a thesis by publication. He has authored 66 journal articles, with over 70% as the lead author, in reputable Chemical Engineering journals (> 90% in Q1 and Q2 journal). Dr. Kong serves as an Early Career Editorial Board Member for Separation and Purification Technology (Elsevier) and is on the Advisory Editorial Board for Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology (Wiley). He is a Professional Engineer registered with BEM and boasts over 6 years of industrial experience as an Assistant Project Manager, focusing on process plant design in industrial projects.
