CO2 capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) has emerged as a highly researched topic in both academia and industry, in order to mitigate excessive CO2 emissions. This research aims to develop a unified framework for the evaluation of various CO2 capture and utilization technologies. For CO2 capture, eight process scenarios were analyzed at the same production scale. These scenarios include four standalone processes: chemical absorption (CHEABS), physical absorption (PHYABS), dual-reflux pressure swing adsorption (DR-PSA), pressure-temperature swing adsorption (PTSA), and four hybrid processes involving multiple absorption/adsorption technologies. For CO2 utilization, various reductive (i.e., production of methane, methanol, dimethyl carbonate, glycerol carbonate) and non-reductive conversion (i.e., dialkyl carbonates, isopropyl n-phenyl carbamate, polycarbonate) pathways were investigated and evaluated. Within the framework of rigorous process simulation, different CO2-based processes can be compared on a fair basis.
